Now that's a most interesting way of thinking of it that makes a surprising amount of sense. Those with no previous ability could tap in as if it were the only branch of magic that they had known, but with a little effort, those who have had experience call upon that same source with the familiarity of their home world.
Of course, this brings new questions, not to the nature of the source, but how one accesses the source. How is it that one can attempt to access it by foreign means and still come across it as naturally as ever? From just this, I'd theorize that as the island reaches out to new worlds, this stream, or whatever, is capable of mimicking the magic system of that world.
