My apologies for the delay, Ratatosk. All preparations are ready. Should any witnesses care to be present in case anything gets out of hand, you are welcome to observe.

((Was gonna do a long, well thought out post, but it's a total copout instead, sorry. =( ))

*HEYOOOOO this sounds intriguing, whatever it is.*

What're you up to? I might help out.

An experiment. I don't think you'll be able to help any, but you're welcome to watch if Emil is alright with it.

An experiment to surpass the limits and expand the over-widening knowledge of man. Namely, this man.

...?

Tell me more. You're trying to increase your brain capacity, is that what you mean?

((That should say *ever.))

What. No. My brain capacity is just fine, thanks. . . . You're really interested in hearing this, Ginko?

Wouldn't be asking if I wasn't.

*kicks back* Go ahead, try me. I've seen a lot of crazy things, and I'm also an expert on lots of boring things too.

. . . Alright! Can't say I didn't warn you.

Let's start from the beginning -- it's necessary to first understand that the spiritual substance we term mana is the source of not only magic, but the root from which all life springs and grows, a fact from which all further hypotheses must be based. It is essential that the mana in a world remains in balance, as a significant depletion at any time will doubtlessly lead to the withering and death of the world in question, a clearly undesirable outcome. Yet simple usage of any form of magic crystallizes and removes a great deal of mana from the reservoir at such rates that you'd expect a world to decline with a single casting of 'Fireball'; to prevent against such an occurrence, the world of Aselia has implented several safeguards. The first lies in the existence of beings composed sheerly of mana, known as Spirits, or Summon Spirits, which act as buffers of a sort; comprised themselves of incredibly large amounts of mana, they prevent precipitous mana drops when magic is utilized by releasing an equal amount of mana into the mana reservoir as that which was taken such that there is no net loss. Crystallized mana is eventually returned to the reservoir after a period of time whereupon the Spirits reabsorb it, thus regulating the inward and outward flows of mana at all time in a fascinating and not yet entirely understood methods. The second method of regulation lies in the inability of pure-blooded humans to tap into the mana reservoir entirely, and although it is unknown how such a thing came about, it's likely that the creators of this world foresaw the necessity of a species created entirely to guard the flow of mana, namely, the Elves. The . .. . . . .. . ........................
.....

.....

.......

So you see, if this experiment is a success, it would prove that full-blooded humans would no longer have to be dependent on elves in order to utilize magic. My memories have shown this to be the case, but there's nothing like first-hand confirmation.

ahahahaaha <3 this is amazing

Oy, oy... *muttered complaint aside, he intently listens, the whole time! blinks whenever there was a point that didn't quite make sense, but files it away to ask later - when Klarth finishes, he takes some time to jot down some notes*

. . . .

*he was patient, now you get to be patient.

...a minute or so of note-jotting later, taps the end of his brush against his forehead, eye still on his notes*

...Is this how you teach your students at school? No wonder their grades are fluctuating so much. You can't expect someone to take in that amount of information without organizing it into sections and stopping for questions, Klarth-sensei.

*lecture done. finally looks up* ...First of mine is, can humans breed with other species in your world? Is that what you mean by "pure-blood"?
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Huh? Well, no. It's hard to get excited over Interior Decoration and Fashion Choices to Facilitate Proper Chi Flow.

There are three predominant 'species' in my world -- Human, Elf, and Monster. Humans and elves can interbreed, and . . . let's not mix that last one into the equation. Humans and dwarves could likely intermingle as well, but the dwarves haven't been seen for centuries. Regardless, anyone with even a drop of elven blood can tap into the mana reservoir. Hence the reason for the intense stigmatization against half-bloods.
From: [identity profile] sore-feet-man.livejournal.com
Hnn... All right. I've heard a little about "elves"; I think I've seen someone Elvish here before, too. *holds pointed fingers beside his head* Pointy ears, right?

It's a side-effect of too many video games. =P

From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Er. Right. Pointy ears and a close affinity with mana; not too fond of humans in general.

:D YAY VIJIMA GAMES

From: [identity profile] sore-feet-man.livejournal.com
Hmm.. Has there been a history of bad relations between the two species, or something like that?

Date: 2009-11-21 09:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Hm? . . . That, I can't recall. But the elves have shut themselves up in their forest and have few dealings with the rest of Aselia.

From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
Yeah? I'll be there. Where do you need me to go?

Date: 2009-11-19 04:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Come to the outskirts of the forest. I've set up in a clearing of sorts beside the northern path.

Date: 2009-11-19 04:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
I'm on my way now.

[Aaaand let's just assume he gets there?]

Date: 2009-11-19 04:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Alright. There's another instructor here who wishes to observe -- Hopefully, you don't mind.

[The clearing that Klarth has set up is scattered everywhere with books, papers and assorted diagrams and drawings of all kinds. He is not willing to fail again. If Ratatosk was truly a Spirit . . . The Summoner was well prepared. Drawn crudely in the ground were several circles marked with runes and indecipherable figures. As Emil enters, Klarth approaches and immediately gets to the point.]

We'll carry out the contract as formally as possible. The answers to the questions I ask should be fairly self-explanatory -- Say yes. Try and refrain from making witty remarks. Anything you need to know before we begin?

Date: 2009-11-19 04:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
[...The work here is either impressive or just messy-looking. Hard to decide which, though if it's the former Emil's not about to say it out loud.]

Let's just get this done already.

Date: 2009-11-19 05:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
Right. Stand in that circle. The smaller one.

[Impressive though they may seem, the magic circles are nearly entirely useless. Klarth knows this. Regardless, line up in front of the circle that he directed Emil towards is a set of rings.]

Choose the Pact Ring that resonates with you most strongly.

((He has the choice between pretty much any semi-precious stone -- Topaz, Aquamarine, Ruby, Diamond, Lapis Lazuli, etc.))

Date: 2009-11-19 05:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
[ Emil hesitates for a moment before settling for a turquoise one. He points to the ring.]

That one.

Date: 2009-11-19 05:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
((Ah, sorry! =X I didn't think it would be very important. But good choice. =P))

Interesting. The same as Maxwell's choice . . . Ah, right then. Let's begin.

[Klarth takes the Turquoise Ring and places it in the palm of his hand. As he begins to speak, whether due to the magic circles or otherwise, a ring of light begins to shimmer underneath his feet. This is, he trusts, a good sign.]

Now! Ratatosk. Unknown spirit or beast of mana, dweller of Daemonium though you may be . . . I beseech you. When the Summoner thus requires it, come to his aid as the contracted Spirit. Do you willingly make this pledge?

Date: 2009-11-19 11:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
[Come to his aid? Nobody mentioned that part before--why would he do that? Emil nearly rejects the contract, but then he remembers why he's here in the first place--as a test to see if he's actually a spirit in the first place. It's probably just a formality. He decides to go ahead with it.]

Yes. I, Ratatosk...

[There should probably be some kind of descriptor here, but since he doesn't know what to describe himself with he just goes on.]

...agree to this contract. Should you ever call for my aid, I will come.

Date: 2009-11-20 12:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
And I do vow to use your strength for the sake of the betterment of this world. Thus is the pact between Spirit and Summoner made -- in accordance with the ancient magics and upon the covenant of this sacred Turquoise Ring. Spirit, know the name of your Summoner: Klarth F. Lester.

[A true magic circle had opened beneath his feet, shining with a radiant green glow. In acknowledgment of the Summoner's words, the Turquoise Ring flashed several times as a light wind swirled gently about both Klarth and Emil. In a few more moments, everything died down. Klarth opened his eyes.]

. . . I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that was a successful contract. Which confirms that you're a spirit or demon inhabiting Emil's body.

Date: 2009-11-20 02:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
Yeah, looks like it. So it's a matter of which one it is, and why I'm here with him in the first place.

Date: 2009-11-20 03:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
That's something you'll have to remember on your own. But I appreciate your assistance with this -- It turned out as well as I could have hoped.

Date: 2009-11-20 10:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
You're welcome, I guess. Is that it, or do you need me for anything else?

Date: 2009-11-21 09:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
. . . To be honest, I'd like to experiment with an actual Summoning -- But I don't think it's safe. I don't know what would happen since you're trapped within a corporeal form.

Date: 2009-11-21 11:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
Why? What's the worst that could happen?

Date: 2009-11-22 03:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shoukanjutsu.livejournal.com
It's possible that it may be as harmless as simply transporting your host's body. It's also possible that ripping your spirit from Emil would leave that body entirely empty with no one at the helm. I have no idea. There's no precedent.

Date: 2009-11-24 04:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chaos-squirrel.livejournal.com
That's...

Fine. Yeah, it'd probably be better to wait. The other Emil is a fool, but I'm not looking to leave him an empty shell.
